Dear Community,

Women have been endowed by the Creator, with the ability and the right to be givers of life and conduits for future generations. Our collective consciousness and intention to protect this right are the most formidable tools in honoring this gift. Advances in Western medicine, particularly in obstetrics, often have been at the expense of communities of color. In particular, Black women and women from the African diaspora have been met with unique challenges and injustice in our effort to exercise our right to collaborate with Creation and birth our children. Our vision to reclaim our right to birthwork and strengthen our families, while honoring our ancestral heritage, will be actualized through our collective talents and efforts. Birthwork requires a wide range of specialists, advocates, and partners.

Sankofa Birthworkers of the Inland Empire are made up of birthworkers from many professional backgrounds and skill sets. Our collective includes:

  • Midwives

  • Doulas

  • Lactation Consultants

  • Mental Health Professionals

  • Physical Therapists

  • Physicians

  • Nurses

  • Community advocates and more…

We are deeply committed to the wellness of Black Birthworkers and providing high-level service while centering birthing families in a position of agency throughout the perinatal and postpartum experiences.

Thank you for exploring your interests and openness to shifting the history of inequity and poor birth outcomes in our community. We are the change we want to see and the time to make that change is now. We are excited that you are here and we look forward to supporting you in your journey.

Truly,

Sankofa Birthworkers Collective of the Inland Empire
