Healing our past. Cultivating our Legacies.

Black Maternal Health Week: April 11-17, 2025.

Join us for the following events.

  • Panel Discussion: The Risk of Giving Birth

    Friday, April 11, 6pm

This short PBS documentary addresses inequities in birth for Black and African American birthing people and mothers in the United States. Together, solutions will be discussed with a local elected official, a hospital-based provider, a midwife, and a doula. We will discover how EVERYONE can make a difference.

  • Movement & Midwives: A Nature Meet-Up

Saturday, April 12, 9:30am, Riverside, CA

Choose to take a walk in the park with local midwives and other Black maternal health providers. Learn more about the providers of Sankofa Birthworkers Collective and enjoy a day out with your family. We’ll enjoy lunch, games, and light exercise. An event like this wouldn’t be complete without swag! All proceeds will go to midwifery efforts.

  • Breathe and Bloom

Sunday, April 13, 12p, Redlands, CA

Rest is the Great Facilitator of healing. As bell hooks reminds us, “Rarely, if ever, are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion.” We invite Black birthworkers (anyone who works in maternal health) to join us for grounding stretching, a soundbath with singing bowls, and a light lunch. VIP swag bags will be available for purchase as a community fundraiser!
